An Important Note to Employers
Effective January 1, 2017, the Screen Actors Guild–Producers Health Plan and the AFTRA Health Fund were merged to create the SAG-AFTRA Health Plan. Employers and their paying agents should continue to follow current procedures when remitting contributions and reporting earnings. Thus:
- Contributions and Earnings that were due and reportable to the SAG-Producers Pension and Health Plans should continue to be remitted and reported to the SAG-Producers Pension Plan [at the same address/lockbox as before January 1, 2017]; and
- Contributions and Earnings that were due and reportable to the AFTRA Health and Retirement Funds should be remitted and reported to the AFTRA Retirement Plan [at the same address/lockbox as before January 1, 2017].
- Until such time that you receive specific instructions from the plans about new procedures, you should continue to remit as you have in the past.
In late 2017, any employers remitting contributions under SAG-AFTRA collective bargaining agreements (CBAs) will be required to submit remittance reports and contributions to a central repository for contributions which will be maintained by the SAG-AFTRA Health Plan. The Health Plan will be responsible for directing remittance records and contributions to the respective pension plans on behalf of the employers in accordance with the CBAs, as applicable.
For remittances under the Commercials or Corporate/Educational & Non-Broadcast agreements that specify an allocation between the SAG-Producers Pension Plan and the AFTRA-Retirement Fund, employers and their paying agents will be obligated to continue to make such allocations and submit separate contribution remittances for each allocation to the SAG-AFTRA Health Plan.
The SAG-AFTRA Health Plan and the AFTRA Retirement Fund will communicate with employers in the near future with regard to new procedures for submitting remittance reports and contributions, i.e., details regarding where and how future remittance reports/contributions should be sent.
Staff of both the SAG-AFTRA Health Plan and the AFTRA Retirement Fund will be working collaboratively in the next few months to prepare for this transition and address any questions you may have. In the immediate term we would ask that you email questions you may have as follows:
